The records of the Institute of the Statistics in the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences include publications, correspondence, meeting minutes, scrapbooks, and other general administrative information. Materials range in date from 1940 to 1994. The Institute of Statistics was created at North Carolina State College (later, University) in 1946 by Gertrude Cox, a member of the Department of Statistics. The Institute was a created as a partnership between NC State and UNC-Chapel Hill for the mutual study and analysis of statistical issues. Throughout its existence, the Institute of Statistics has been overseen by the Department of Statistics, where it continues to operate as of 2010.
